Welcome to the Illinois Harvest of the Month website, the online portal for schools and farmers to learn how to take part in this exciting program. Each month, schools in the program feature a different local food that students will love to eat. School districts can register to participate, and then gain access to curriculum activities, recipes, drag and drop tools and more. Click on each food to learn about what’s included!
The local food feature for the month of March is local apples. You can include apples in the salad bar, as a part of another dish, or as a taste test item. Included on this website are featured curriculum connections for apples, along with recipes for food service departments and for students and their families.
Also, the second Thursday in October is the day of the Illinois Great Apple Crunch! If you are bringing in local apples at other times of the year, why not go all out and celebrate the Crunch? Be sure to register here and check out the activity list.
